What distinguishes our schools from all others is the quality of teacher - student engagement that takes place every day in our centers.”
John Hall, OFY Founder
This school is an amazing place to get help one on one with your teachers and tutors. They work hard to push you to accomplish you goals and succeed in life. Don't let this opportunity pass by. I'm glad I didn't because I wouldn't be where I am now.”

I love it. I feel at home here.”

After being expelled from Upland High School for disciplinary issues, I attended Options for Youth on Mountain Avenue in Upland for a year. The opportunity that OFY gave me changed my life. Not only did attending OFY take me away from the very negative experience of a crowded public school and its social pressures, it also let me study--for the first time in my life--whatever I wanted to, without any disciplinary pressure. Taking a class on poetry, reading through the packets on my own, I was absolutely blown away. I had never read poetry before that time but I immediately knew that it was what I wanted to do with my life. OFY gave me that opportunity and I ran with it, reading as much poetry, literature, and philosophy as I possibly could. I went on to attend Chaffey Community College, where I graduated with an AA with honors and transferred to UC Berkeley to graduate magna cum laude in 2005. In 2008 I enrolled in a graduate program at Yale University where I am set to receive my PhD from this year in English Language and Literature. I could never have done any of this without OFY--and for this, in a private way, I've been deeply grateful. Now I am writing this note to thank OFY openly for its work and the amazing opportunity it gave me to pursue a deep passion I didn't even know I had. Thank you so much.”

I absolutely love it. After coming here, I would never want to go back to traditional high school to be honest. I love the fact that you get to work at your own pace and I also really like the fact that it still has the fun activities and feeling of a normal high school. I also like how no one really cares here, in the sense that every one, meaning the peers are just worried about their education not friend drama or what anyone is wearing. It’s just awesome.”

Upon graduating from Options For Youth, I felt like I was well prepared for college. I was given the tools to be able to study independently and thoroughly, and I feel like I owe a lot of my current success to that.”

OFY has been such a great help to me, I was struggling in high school, and got right back on my feet once I came to OFY. I recommend students who are behind in credits, who want to graduate faster or who are struggling in public school to come to OFY for the best help, achievements, and receiving your diploma.”

I love it. It gives me flexibility with acting, and I can still get ahead in school. I love everyone here."

I love it! I enjoy going to school every day! I wish that I went every day because all of the teachers make going to OFY fun! In a way they're like a family who's constantly telling you to work harder and they care about how well you do in school. This school is one of the most caring schools that I've gone to. They make me feel welcomed and are always helping me trying to reach my academic goals.”

I feel like I was very prepared for college when I came to Sonoma State. Options For Youth really prepared me to manage my time.”

I think it's really great, because I feel like I have more "one-on-one" attention, compared to having a classroom filled with 30+students. I also feel like the teachers are nicer and actually want to have successful students. It's very different and comforting for me to see that it's a welcoming environment.”

I love teaching at OFY because students get the individual support they need to achieve their academic goals, rather than being just another face in the crowd.”
Noelle Fyvie, OFY Independent Study Teacher
I really enjoy the program because it has influenced me as a student and citizen to be more independent and work on my own without depending on others.”

Options For Youth allowed me to graduate a year and a half early by allowing me to work at my own pace. My teacher always supported me and pushed me toward the direction of my goal. I would always recommend Options!”

I think that OFY is an amazing school. Coming here has brought me such great grades and the teachers are always willing to help.”

I like Options, it's a great way for me to get credits in without the fear of being bullied."

I love it. The teachers are so nice and they really work with your schedule.

Our focus has always been to work with students who seek an alternative to a structured classroom, where they can be mentored by a teacher and take more responsibility for their own educational experience."
Pam Hall, OFY Founder
I came into OFY as a freshman, I was nervous and shy. My teacher Steve made me feel very comfortable and helped me with everything and anything I needed. He was my teacher for the next three years. I made a small group of friends and they stayed with me.”
OFY Alum
I learned a lot and created great relationships with my teachers. I was independent and didn't have any distractions that traditional high schools are known for. I was happy and ready to take on bigger things after graduating from OFY.”

I love it, I am glad I made the switch and am able to be a part of such a family like community.”

When I came, the teachers are nice and the work is manageable. All you have to do is put in the work. I went from an F average student to a 3.85 thanks to OFY. I recommend this program for anyone who is struggling in school because of the way they are taught.”

The day I walked into Options For Youth was the day my life changed. I actually had teachers who cared about me. That was something I was not use to at all.”
