It’s that time of year again when incoming seniors will begin applying to college. While many see the application process as burdensome, thoughtful preparation can help minimize the stress. The majority of colleges and universities require students to take the ACT or SAT test at least once and report scores as an essential part of the application process. Today, we’ll focus on how to register for the SAT.
Registering for the SAT Test
1. Pick your testing date:
The SAT is offered several times throughout the year, but seniors should plan on taking the test early in the school year. Most counselors recommend taking the test more than once. You might be asking, “Why would anyone want to take a three hour test more than once?” Often times students do better the second time around, once they’ve had a chance to get hands-on experience with the test.
2. Find a Test Center:
The easiest way to find a test center near you is to use the online locator at College Board website. Registering early gives you a better chance of getting your first choice center as spaces are limited per location.
3. Create a Free College Board Account:
After completing the first two steps, you will need to create a free College Board account if you haven’t done so already. You will provide basic information and also have the opportunity to provide additional information about yourself that potential colleges and scholarships may consider. This is the longest part of the process so leave plenty of time to complete this step.
4. Register for the Test:
This last step is where you will provide your test date and center. If you are using a fee waiver, you will need to enter the identification number on the fee waiver card provided to you.
