Charter schools are publicly funded schools operating independently of local public school systems, but are usually sponsored by an existing public school Board of Education. Charter schools must be non-sectarian and cannot charge tuition or discriminate by residency, race, religion, or economic status. Charter school staff and teachers are typically allowed more room for innovation in curriculum design and teaching methodology. This freedom is afforded to charter schools in return for greater accountability in student achievement.

OFY teachers award grades based on his/her professional judgment of a student’s work quality, using the following guidelines:

Mental health services are available at every OFY school site. Students or parents/guardians may access mental health services, including but not limited to crisis intervention and counseling, by contacting the assistant principal to initiate the referral process.
To be eligible for graduation, OFY students must successfully complete 220 credits in specific courses/disciplines, and complete 10 hours of community service. To view course requirements, please see the Student Handbook.

Not all students thrive in traditional education environments. Though traditional school districts also have passionate and caring staff, they don’t always have the time or resources they need to work with every student. OFY is available as an alternative solution where students get more personalized support and work at a pace and schedule that best suits them.
Any given school is not a perfect fit for every student. Options For Youth offers more flexibility, independence, and direct personalized support than traditional schools. If you have fallen behind on credits, are looking to get ahead, or feel uncomfortable in traditional school settings, OFY may be the right fit for you.

Career interests are identified and fostered from enrollment to graduation, ensuring all students leave with the prerequisite skills and a personalized plan that will help them succeed in today’s economy.
